Our History
Iola's, oh no, haven't you heard! We have a new name! MY Salon and Spa. No, not "yours", it's MY (Michelle & Yolande) Salon and Spa.
On May 1st, 2009 Michelle and Yolande went into business together. Michelle had been owner of the salon since 2005 and was looking for a partner. Former owner & long time employee, Yolande Bronson was ready to resume a mangement role. The salon expanded and with that came renovations and a new look. They also decided that a new name to signify the partnership was in order. Michelle and Yolande (MY) were excited to begin a new chapter in the long history that was Iola's Salon.
Iola's had been in business for over 75 years, making it the longest running business in Newport. It was originally located on Coventry St., owned and operated by Iola Marcotte. In 1980 the salon was purchased by Madeline Roy. Madeline took over the business and the success continued. In 1995 Yolande Bronson, who had started Ladies and Lords in 1981, was expecting her second son and was ready to sell her business. She didn't want to sell to just anyone, so she approached Madeline Roy, owner of Iola's Salon. The two salons merged and Iola's relocated to the Ladies and Lords location on Main St. and became Iola's Salon for Ladies & Lords.
After running the salon for 25 years Madeline decided it was time to pass on the scissors. She and long time employee, Michelle Horton, struck a deal and Michelle purchased the business in 2005. Madeline stayed on at the salon and continues to do hair and visit with their long time clients.
MY Salon and Spa is now owned and operated by Michelle Horton and Yolande Bronson, the salon continues to provide the very best in hair & spa services. Together with a staff of dedicated, talented, women, MY Salon & Spa is the choice for your beauty needs in the Northeast Kingdom.
